I just realized that most 6800GT's still sell for $160+...that's pretty darn close to a 7600GT, which I assume, outperforms the 6800GT.

Help me make a decision on a video card.

Right now I have an eVGA 256mb 6800XT PCI-e. It came stock at 325/600 and I bumped it up to 432/815 via Coolbits auto-overclock. Temperatures didn't rise much and my 3dMark06 went from 1452 to 1912. I bought an NV Silencer Rev3 for it, but it wont fit inside my case (stupid Dell computer)...

I have a quick question about OC'ing video cards

^ great post, thanks. Right now it's overclocked to 432/815 at around 65C...it says the threshhold is 115C, but what's a good idle temp that I should stay around?

So bump memory 5-10% and test it with a game until I reach the highest stable OC, then do the core, correct?

Or do you do one, then the other? Also, does anyone know what kind of speeds I can get with an eVGA 256MB 6800XT PCI-e with an NV Silencer Rev5? It's at 325/600 right now...I'm going to try to get 375/700 if I can. Should I bump it up 5-10% at a time? Edit: How effective/reliable is...

So I bought that eVGA 6800XT 256mb PCI-e

It showed "12/5," but when I viewed the table again, it still said "Disabled" next to those vertex/pixel pipelines. I ran 3dMark06 again just to be sure and there was no change in my score.

I heard only the AGP version can be unlocked...I'll try it though. I tried unlocking to 12 pixel pipes and 5 vertex shaders...no luck.

So I bought that eVGA 6800XT 256mb PCI-e

I got it for $97 including shipping, tax, and the MIR I'm going to use. My system is a Dell E510: Pentium D 2.8ghz (820) 2x512 DDR2 160gb 7200RPM HD With my ATI 128mb x300, I got a 3dMark 06 of 187. With the 6800XT 256mb, I got a 3dMark 06 of 1452. That's almost an 8x improvement...
