TSMC missing the 20nm node for all of 2014 would be quite the disaster, and I don't think anyone is predicting that. Unless of course you forgot what year this is.:D

By next year ARM will be on 22/20nm, so I don't see how Intel will gain any sort of advantage though.

Agreed with the second half of the post. Agreed with that too. Repealing the 2nd amendment will open up the classes of restrictions that can be placed, but the amendment does not mean no restrictions can be put into place.

I actually don't have a problem with pushing for the repeal or alteration of the 2nd amendment. The challenges in pulling it off should not undermine the validity of the idea. Certainly, more people should actually seriously consider it instead of dismissing it.

Intel needs to bring back Slot 1 again. Maybe with a PCI-E bus and a built-in heat sink and fan as a modernized version. If they integrate DRAM on package, then CPU swaps will be just like GPU swaps.

Same reason why people aren't satisfied with mobile games and "extragrade" with a console. As long as graphics are superior to APU or consoles, people will continue to buy discrete graphics cards. In fact, right now the gap is quite large and we are seeing console gamers move to PC gaming...

I suppose that is a possibility that could happen. However, it is also one that could have happen anytime in the last 10 years and yet it never did. We have to assume that either Intel doesn't want to do a discrete GPU, or there is some specialized IP related to discrete GPUs that Intel doesn't...

We still have a long ways to go before real-time graphics reach movie quality CG. As long as discrete graphics provide a noticeable difference, I suspect people will continue to buy them. As mentioned above, there are fundamental limitations to an iGPU, which may imply that the gap between iGPU...

They probably can't move off ARM right now, as it would mean a large porting effort. "Selling smartphones" is a multibillion dollar business for them after all. There's not much of an alternative to ARM for their particular business models either. MIPS and PowerPC offer nothing in particular...

I very much doubt that. ARM isn't like AMD in the sense it provides a finished product like a CPU or GPU and sell them directly. Rather, it just licenses out the architecture and several chip designs to anyone who wants them. Numerous companies have taken up on that deal, including Qualcomm...
