Wow. I thought integrated graphics were really making strides, but a mid-range, 5-year-old card is still better than integrated graphics? That's sad. Thanks!

Integrated or Discrete?

I currently have an XFX Radeon HD 5670 with 1GB of RAM. My motherboard died (I hope that's all that died), so I'm upgrading all the way from an Athlon II X2 250 to an i7 4790, an ASUS H87-PLUS, and 8GB of RAM. I've been out of the game so long that I honestly don't know if it's better to use...

Galaxy S / Epic 4G coming to Sprint on the 31st. Campers?

The Droid X, the iPhone 4, and many different HTC phones are having supply issues right now. Many manufacturers ramped down production and laid off workers because of the recession, and they're having troubles ramping back up. Blaming Sprint is ridiculous.

But last year they didn't have global supply issues for smartphone parts. Also, Verizon's version won't be as nice as the Epic.

I fail to see how any of your commentary applies here. I chose the best processor I could for the money. Did you really just waste all that time typing that out without reading the thread, or was there something in specific you think I could have spent money on more intelligently than I did?

WHOA! That's a great price, thanks! OK, so he came back and said he'd like to have a 23" monitor and has a budget of $800. That should leave me with a great video card to go with that processor/motherboard combo from Microcenter.

I'm trying to put something together for a friend (haven't really kept up on processor and motherboard stuff for years) and I need some suggestions. He is NOT a heavy gamer, but I would assume for a total system cost of around $600 (with a decent 21"+ monitor) he should be able to get something...

Also, what I'm really looking for are things I can do to test each piece of the line to find the problem. I don't want to spend $50 on new wiring only to find out that the problem was the router the whole time. Can anyone help me out there? To be clear, this is helpful, but I might not need...

How much encoding work does the video card do? If it pitches in significantly, I might pick the 5670 over the 5570. I have to buy one, and the $15 price difference isn't an issue, but I'd prefer not to take up two slots.
