56k modem fax out software

For Windows XP, is there an open source (hopefully sourceforge) piece of software that is recommended for faxing out? I have a 56k modem on a really old laptop that I want to fax out and fax into here and there.

Artifacts caused only by heat?

Are artifacts on a screen only caused by heat or could they be caused by drivers, other software, etc? I run two screens and had horizontal lines come on both screens. It got worse and worse until I could barely see anything on the screens at all. I rebooted the computer and they were gone...

Marvelous, but anything that will retain the icon positions? I see that this you have to run every time windows boots and I believe it sets everything to alphabet order.

But is it really dependent upon "first come, first serve"? It isnt a high profile or high value domain. If I get it, great. If not, I don't care. I am interested enough to post a thread about it :)
