Sometimes experimentation is the only way. :( Had a similar situation with a family members DVD player. Just kept trying various kinds until I found the ONE brand and format that worked in that machine(TDK -R). TDK and Ritek seem to be the most compatible for my family and friends. HTH
Had a IBM Deathstar die in an Raid array. :| They did replace it though. Now I stick with WD and Maxtor. No problems. They both have nice HD cloning software for upgrading folks HDs without having to reinstall their OS. YMMV
Was the new .bin file from the manufacturer? Some of the "other" .bin files can be buggy sometimes. Not that manufactures get it right all the time either. ;) I would try re-flashing with the old .bin that worked. And trouble shoot from there.
Did you clear the BIOS after flashing?

Even the big boys, Dell, HP, etc don't always install all the posts on the MOBO. Leave out the one that won't get a lot of down pressure when installing something like memory, or on a corner. The middle one by the last PCI slot maybe? Good luck.
Is either HD a Western Digital or Maxtor? If so go to that HD manufactures site and down load their HD transfer software. Free and both work great. HTH
