Are cheap TV Tuner cards worth it?

If your monitor is larger then your TV sure, if not, forget it. :)

If you pre-order/back order something, and the price changes...

If they didn't sell it to me at the price it was pre-ordered I would cancel it and never purchase from them again. If they are willing to put something out ahead of time they had best be willing to stick by the price they put it out as.

What to look for in a surge protector / battery backup solution

APC Get the RS series, for cost/features ratios. No matter what, make sure the UPS does LINE CONDITIONING. I recommend the APC RS 800 or 1000. Perfect protection for most home users.

Odds are you will have to reinstall. In fact, I advise it. If the chipsets are the same, then you might be able to get away with not, but it's all in the luck of the draw. You used to be able to get away with this in 98, but 2000+ pretty much stopped it, though I have done it for a few custoemrs...

Surge protectors are worthless, they are only good for lightning strikes and power surges from say a blown transformer. Anyway get an APC UPS, one that has 'Voltage Regulation' if it doesn't have that then don't get it, it's just a glorified surge protector.

AMD64 or AMDFX?

The high end 64 AMD's are basically the same as teh FX line, only they are not unlocked, so the FX is easier to OC. Depending on the model they might also have half the cache. According to a review a XP64 is no benefiet to gaming, so that's got to be a personal choice for you, if you are...

What was your first Computer?

Commodore VIC-20. Then I moved up to a 386 25Mhz, to bad it only ran at 8Mhz, bad motherboard I think. But that was back in the day where it cost a fortune to get stuff fixed so I lived with it. I ran a BBS with a 300Baud modem!

Solar Panels...

It's about $20k US to put solar panals on a roof to generate sufficient power to warrent the initial expense. Most people will not pay that fee when purchasing a new house.

Why it will evaporate in a matter of minutes, maybe an hour, total waste of time, effort and resources, not to mention the possability of damaging something.
