probably any aftermarket cooler you can find would be better than the stock.
I pulled the stock cooler out that came with the 720 and thought there had been a mistake, I havn't seen such a cheap stock hs for probably over 5 years.
I used the stock one that came with my amd x2 6000+, during...
Memory Standard DDR2 1200 / 1066 / 800
(Whether 1200 MHz memory speed is supported depends on the CPU being used)
since your buying new ram, I would of went with the highest speed
look for ddr2 1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings
the e8500 will hold the gtx 285 back in games.
I ran benchmarks with the vcard and my X3 720 starting from the stock 2.8 all the way to a 3.6 OC with 3dmark06 and my video scores increased to about as high as a single card can get or is as listed there. On a e8500 OC'd to 4 MHz the GTX 285...
I wouldnt waste a dime on a 9800gt for physics, I wouldnt use any card for physics, those 2 285's in SLI is more than enough for any game there is.
I wouldnt waste time and money on having multiple harddrive, I would get one large fast drive and not have to worry about raid setup.
I...
I would reconsider and not get that e8500, its priced at $190 and the motherboard is $135.
the X3 720 is faster core for core in games, has a third core and is priced at $145 and you can find a good board for $109.

every game I have played in DX10 mode runs slower than DX9 EXCEPT FC2, that seems to be the only game that makes sense of DX10.
whenever I read up on DX10 I was always under the impression that its supposed to have better looking visuals and utilize more cpu and other resources so the game...
this goes both ways, customers try to get freebies by doing this or that but those same customers also buy products that are dead out of the box, or they dont work like their supposed, over heating... etc.. then you have to go through the hassle of a customer service rep/technical support person...
I was considering getting a e8500 setup a few months ago before phenom II's were released and IM saying Im glad I didnt.
im saying reviewers compare the x3 720's price/performance ratio to e8400 cpus and im saying the amd one is less of a bottleneck on the gtx285 than an e8500 which is a step...
I waited on my upgrade and went with this cpu, before the phenom II's came out I was considering switching over to intel to get the e8500, im glad I didn't!
I just got my gtx 285 card today and did some testing and I see with the x3 720 it does not hold this card back like the e8500 does, at...

On the product page for my mobo, in the bios updates there is this one: F2B 2009/03/10
1. Update ACC code for Phenom X3 CPU
but still using FR didn't work with auto, does it...
