encrypt a bootable partition? (OS independent)

web based vpn?

I'm lookin to setup a vpn server on my home pc. the problem is that i want to be able to login from any computer, without installing an vpn software. I've tried SSL Explorer, but it seems too finicky. anyone have any other recommendations?

conference w/ inventor of ethernet... what should i ask?

haha, what did 3Com do to its enterprise customers? and i like the one about scalability... i was thinking about asking him if he see's ethernet playing as important of a role 20 or 30 years from now.

Robert M. Metcalfe, inventor of ethernet and owner of 3Com is giving a lecture at the university of maryland at college park. I'm not 100% sure what the topic is going to be, but i was trying to think of some good questions to ask him if there's a Q&A.... any suggestions?

how do i test for a dead mobo?

took out virus/spyware - win98 has LAN issues now

i had a customer that called me said they're computer was acting wacky. I fired it up and immediately could tell there was a massive spyware infection. So i decided to take the HD out and install it on my machine as a slave and run a virus scan and then a spyware scan. Both scans picked up alot...

funny firewall behaviour

for the past 12 hours, i've been getting alot of hits from various sources on port 6346, which is supposed to be from the gnutella network, but as far as i know, i dont have any apps that access that. how can i pin down which program is actually using that port?

Do most of you have a dedicated server for your home network or just a simple workgroup

yea, basically i'm using my "trial" version of 2k3 just to learn. i absorb alot more if i can play with the OS for a bit, then start reading some books on what i was just doing.
