This is exactly what I do before I place large orders online. the bank makes a note of it and the transactions never have problems going through. Takes 2-3 minutes tops.
I use this on my GA-EP35-DS3L. Works like a charm. I watercool my CPU but did not feel like restricting the flow with a northbridge cooler.

Just so people know, this is not just a Gigabyte issue. Many other P35 chipset motherboards have the issue. Even older chipsets have the problem. Heck my Shuttle with the NForce 3 250 chipset has latency issues.
I had that luck for a bit. I found out the power (wiring) in my basement was causing it. I ended up getting a very high quality APC and it solved it. Too bad it killed a number of computer parts (and my wallet) before I figured it out.
If you get the 8800gt and later on decide to upgrade the system, the video card will still be decent. So for sure go that route.

I have had it off for around 8 hours as I was installing my watercooling and it had no issue. Other than that I do not really leave my system off. I do also have a BETA BIOS that might of fixed that issue. I am not sure.
