Why are people in these forums so mean?

You contribute to these forums to try to help others by sharing your experiences, or ask for help from others to gain insight from their experiences. More often than not, someone will post and totally tear down another person, who is only trying to contribute. OK, so I'm not 100% correct 100%...

2 parallel port?

I have had too many problems adding a second parallel port - IRQ conflicts, among other things. Then you have to take the time to troubleshoot. Go to Best Buy or Circuit City or someplace like that, and get an A-B Switch box. That's what it is called, A-B Switch box. You will need three...

Problem running Scan disk and defragmenting

Screen savers do this! Everytime the screen saver kicks in, the windows swap file changes which which creates a change on the hard drive which causes ScanDisk to restart. Have nothing running except Explorer and Systray, and turn off your screen saver.

Shouldn't hurt the MoBo, but it probably won't get very far with POST - will get BIOS errors.

I would remove the scanner and all files from your machine. Then use RegMaid RegMaid to clean up your registry. Make sure you delete all references to the scanner from your registry. Reboot into Safe mode, and check device manager for any resource conflicts. Reboot, and reinstall your...

Will computer catch FIRE ??

The only one's that really count (servers, AS400, etc.) are located in a room with a Halon system, So even if they did catch fire it wouldn't last long. And there are some people ... I'd love to set fire to their PC's.

error message everytime I come to this site

That stuff can't get past your firewall, and probably never will. It cuts down on bandwidth, and could be a security problem. Alternately, your versio of IE may be too hold, and can't handle the Java stuff, etc.

Question about maxtor udma66 drive and defrag...

Unfortunately, when you install certain softwares they write some of their information to certain clusters of the hard drive, and always reference that spot. They won't allow defrag to move them as it would screw up that program's operation. That is why defrag rearranges everything around...

Restart problem

If it is not a video problem i.e. drivers, card failing, I'd take a look at power management, as in disabling it and see if that doesn't solve your problem. I have seen more shut down/restart problems caused by BIOS and Windows fighting over who's going to control power management.

what's a "windows protection error?" and how do I get rid of it??

This is usually caused by a hardware problem - bad RAM, incorrect device drivers, failing card. Boot up into safe mode, and check device manager for any problems - you can see all devices in safe mode, which you can't otherwise. If you have recently installed a device, take it out and try...

Win95b busmaster errors

Did you check to make sure bus mastering is enabled in the BIOS? Did you check in device manager for any conflicts (IRQ, etc.)

Since it seems like you replaced everything else, you might as well replace the power supply! But this will bump you and maybe somebody else could give you a better idea. Any chance at all that the monitor is no good?
