    4GB in Vista 64bit - s939

definitely - 4gb running at 324 mhz with a 2.9ghz CPU feels slower than 2.6ghz CPU with 475mhz on the ram. Although, I could just stick with 2 gb and go up to 3.1ghz on the cpu with 520 mhz on the ram.... decisions decisions........

is it just as slow without using a login name and password?

    Failing registry entry

Everytime I try to start live messenger I get an error saying the application could not start as 'sensapi.dll could not be found' - I downloaded a new copy of the file, but vista will not let me alter or remove the original registry entry. Does anyone know what I can do? Or what the hell...

2x512 plus 2X1GB possible dual channel

there can be some problems with using all 4 dimms on A64, as I have personally experienced, but if you're not overclocking this really shouldn't be an issue for you. If running 4 dimms you will have to run at 2T instead of 1T and most likely have to loosen your timings to something like 3-3-3-7...

booting vista x64 with 4GB ram

Is your ram running at full speed? I can get stable easy enough, but my MB downclocks the mem frequency and refuses to play ball with memory dividers. Plus, does your MB spec support over 4gb ram? eg, mine has a max of 4 whereas yours might be 8gb - if so then its def a hardware prob.

    4GB in Vista 64bit - s939

Thats definitely something i've considered - but then I hear similar problems from ppl with 2x2gb sticks -

    4GB in Vista 64bit - s939

I was prime 95 stable for 5 1/2 hours with 4 x 1GB but running games proved a bit iffy sometimes, not to mention the huge decrease in memory speed - this was runing 4GB PC4000 3-5-5-10 2T @ 216 mhz - I was perfectly stable at 162 mhz, but that really is just taking the p@%#!! I shouldnt have to...

    4GB in Vista 64bit - s939

thought might have some more responses here - see original thread http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=34&threadid=2082818 if im missing anything from this post. 4 gigs of Ram installed, all the same brand/timings/etc - PC4000 - basic problem is, System is not nearly stable without a MASSIVE...

    Need some RAM

Windows 32bit will not recognise more than 3.25 GB (ish) of Ram. You could always go for 3 GB (2x1GB and 2X512MB) - if you're not planning on overclocking ur CPU or RAM then pretty much any Ram will serve you well - I have had good experiences with the DDR1 variety of G-skill, but never used DDR2

booting vista x64 with 4GB ram

Ok after 2 days of testing with a new opty 185 - the only way I can stay stable is running the proc at 2.7 and the ram at 165 mhz! This is unacceptable, so I have gone back to 2 gigs of ram running at 240mhz and the proc running at 3 ghz - tbh, the system is faster and more responsive without...

booting vista x64 with 4GB ram

Ram's working properly now on 'auto' not a 1:1 divider, with a 240 fsb, the ram is running at 196 mhz which suggests the MB is limiting it somehow, even though it wouldn't boot using actual dividers. This means my CPU will not be able to run at its usual 290 fsb, which is a shame - but I have an...

    Vista Remapping options

Many NF4 boards dont like certain RAM dividers - I think with 4 sticks I'll be very limited - It seems to me that most ppl running 4gb in vista have newer intel boards - def not a bios prob. EDIT - Mobo supports remapping - this was the first thing i tried, and had limited success (at least I...

    Vista Remapping options

Hmm yeah I've gone in to the whole PAE issue through bcdedit - unfortunately I dont actually know the whole mehanics behind how everything works - i think I've found the solution tho if you read my other post http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=34&threadid=2082818 any further tips would...

booting vista x64 with 4GB ram

Thats with the patch installed! NF4 does NOT like dividers!!! Im gonna try running stress tests with everything at default / ram at looser timings - if it works I'll upgrade to the opteron 185 as its dirt cheap right now - hopefully I'll be able to get at least 2.8 on the CPU with mem at 260...
