Strange Problem, MPG files won't play

i always have file extensions shown out, cause a lot of the time, i need to convert random files to .txt for various reasons... so, yes, i am actually changing the file extensions... (i change it on every computer i work with, even when people ask me for help, just out of habit) i was using...

thanks for the replies... the files are definately encoded as mpegs... but they play when i change the file extension to anything but mpg... hell i can change the extension to .zip and play it if i open it with windows media... so the codecs are fine thats why its just some strange error...

Okay, well it's not really a big deal if i figure this one out, cause I found a way around it. However, I would like to try to figure out the problem... whenever i open up a .mpg or .mpeg file through windows media or real player or any other player, i get an "unknown error"... reinstalled all...

Is a 350W antec enough for this setup?

thanks, i came up with about 250 Watts... although the CPU I want isn't on the list... so, i think the antec should run solid for now at least... as far as heatsinks are concerned, what's the cheapest one that'll keep my processor from frying :)

Computer keeps locking up

seems like it was the ram... finally got around to testing some things out... i just came back from vacation and tried booting the computer, and it would lock after about 2 mins... i took the following steps: 1) disconnected everything superfluous (CD roms, disk drives, 2nd graphics cards...

Computer keeps locking up

money isn't a huge issue in buying a new computer... the damn thing crashing cost me a $700 pot playing poker last week... i don't ever want that to happen again... there's no adware / spyware, the thing runs as well as the day i built it (err actually the day i installed the new processor)...

Computer keeps locking up

Well, basically i have an old setup... i used to be into this sort of a thing about a year or 2 ago... right now, i'm running an Athlon 1700+ T-Bred B (not even overclocking anymore) nothing in the computer is new so i don't even know where to begin looking to find the problem... all i do...

Its a 754 pin. And the ram is patriot ram that was on sale at outpost in late december. Definately not the best quality, but it should still work. I use generic ram in my system for the past 2 years. I just really think the ram settings are off. I really don't think there are any other...

Games freeze after booting up for a few seconds

Everything is installed correctly. The parts haven't changed much in the past year and a half or so. Regardless, I'm positive everything was installed properly. I'm thinking that the ram settings in bios are screwed up. Anyways, what would be the proper settings in bios for PC3200 Ram?

Help, my taskbar dissapeared

you can still get to control panel using my computer, then access the taskbar settings through there. Might help something i guess. Otherwise, reboot, that seems to fix most problems.
