ASUS RAID 0 issue

As long as the drives aren't bad, the partitioning setup wasn't messed around with, and you have the same motherboard (or in case of Intel, just the same ICH chipset), you should be able to grab the data off of it without any issues. Anything else and you are pretty much out of luck. orz

Intel DP55WG DDR3 1600 or 1333

I just used 4x 2GB sticks of DDR3-1333 from Crucial (Micron). Works fine and runs at 1.5V. Not planning on overclocking it (since it's for my VPN/Hyper-V server).

How can I reformat a P-P-P-Powerbook G4 without disc?

A copy of Tiger will work fine on a machine of those specs. I'm sure you can buy a copy for around $50 - $80.

9-pin front panel connector

Are you referring to the 9-pin connectors for the Power/Reset switch and Power/HD LED? If you are, you should just be able to extract the connector block and connect the wires individually.

Which Memory for Intel DX58SO Mother Board

Any DDR3 memory should work fine. I have had good luck with G-Skill, OCZ, and Crucial memory on it.

Need a dirt cheap replacement mobo for a AMD 3500+, can I find one under 40 dollars?

This board seems to fit the bill if you are just looking for a basic motherboard.

Recommend a mobo

I second on the EP45. I had two machines using those boards for a while (before I upgraded them) and they ran just fine on stock settings. If you are not planning on overclocking, then I would suggest an Intel board. Nothing fancy, but it just works.

785G board with.. Socket 939?

Not that I know of. The memory controller on the 939 chips only supported DDR and not DDR2.

Building a virtualisation rig

Sharpie, VMWare is indeed very powerful and will serve just fine for the OP. However, I think that Hyper-V does offer some of these features as well such as: snapshot support, separate networks, and cloning VMs. Now I am not saying that the OP should just abandon the idea of VMWare, just that...

RAID setup... Are consumer backplanes reliable?

I'll agree with Cr0nJ0b on this one. I use consumer-grade hotswap bays on my server and workstation and I haven't had any issues. That being said, the enterprise level hardware does feel more solid and usually the warranty is better.
