IB is not 77W but 95W!!

He doesn't need to. It's not that uncommon. My 2600K does 4.8GHz w/HT and 5.0GHz w/o HT on 1.424V. The NH-D14 or any high-end tower cooler can handle that. That's through 24h of Prime95 Blend and also IBT w/AVX. My chip is slightly above average I guess...there are 2500Ks that do 5GHz...

4GB GTX680 on the way

The practical limitations for OCing both the 680 and 7970 are probably the 28nm process itself and air/water-cooled temperatures. 12 power phases and 8+6 PEG is likely completely unnecessary unless you're on LN2, and then both cards have already been OC'd to 1800-1900MHz.

It's moreso that mobile chips are eating into TSMC's production capacity. Guess who makes all those Tegra 3s for Nvidia? Guess what space (discrete graphics or mobile SoC) Nvidia cares about more moving forward?

Oh wow I hadn't noticed the OC3D review. The OC 7970 wins practically everything, and those tests were conducted at 1080p.

Again, you are presuming that this was supposed to be a $350 card...based on what, S|A, OBR, Fudzilla? Sites that make up rumors for ad revenue? I also don't get what you're trying to say about per core performance. It's not magic...you can't just conjure up performance out of nowhere...

My point about die size is that unlike a strict derivation of GF114, they doubled the number of equivalent functional units. The result was a fairly notable increase in die size... It could have been more, but Nvidia finally managed a supremely high transistor count per area, just ever so...
