I hit the HP website yesterday to configure a notebook, comparing it to a low end Dell, and one of the things i was impressed by was that they were only charging $58 to upgrade to XP Pro, vs Dell wanting $150.
These things only lead to buying more and bigger hard drives!!
I've a 150 and for this price it's great. However it rapidly fills up my 250GB hard drive!!
I've been buying nicads from Thomas distributing for years and always reliable service. Get a good recharger and a box of batteries and they will last almost forever. I buy them now for gifts and for the latest highest capacity AAA's. Good site. One point to make though - it seems every time...
Remember - they do not say never powered up -
They don't know if it's been booted - I've read how others get the system, Ghost it immediately - have their way with it and then restore the ghost image and return it.
They just never went thru the reqular splash screen power up to windoze.
I got their X2-3800/ECS BF deal for $270 or $280. Price should go down, not up.
ECS m/b's are crap - yet because of Fry's I buy about 1 every other year because they are essentially free with the processor. Support is pitiful.
First one - the manual was for the wrong version, some jumpers...
I just finished spending a rebooting hell trying to get one I purchased last fall reinstalled.
System- ECS A939 m/b with AMD X2 3800 ($279 BF special:)), 1GB - Tried installing an old MX300 sound card and it corrupted the registry.
Did a clean reinstall of W2K (SP4, MB drivers, ATI video, MS...
It only sucks if you are a buyer. If you had bought in 20 years ago it might look great now. You could sell your house and buy the similar one in Tennessee and have 80% of your money left over. That's why you need to determine if it's worthwhile to buy in. What's it going to look like 20...
Some things to keep in mind in this day and age -
Despite what we nerds and geeks think a lot of business is still done face to face.
Most major urban centers in the US are hubs of high paying employment.
Most of the East has a LOT of black fiber layed during the dot.com boom to connect these...
What this thread needs is more discussion on hot deals and fewer hot tempers.
I just got my real estate assements for property taxes - I've a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath house, about 650 sq. ft., real old and in need of repair or tear down, about 2 miles south of Oldtown, Alexandria, VA. Last year it...
Yup - winflash worked - even though the readme with the file said to only do it thru DOS.
Mmmmm 4Ghz folding for the Horde!
By the way - W2K DID NOT recognize 2 CPU's without the flash.
Just fired up my Fry's special - (ecsa939&x23800) w w2k and it only recognizes 1 processor. I'm assuming I need a bios upgrade,
Can I do that without floppy?
Agreed - I've built three folders in the last several years, with ECS/AMD combos, bought dirt cheap because of the CPU. The worst one was the first one with a manual that did not match the board and piss-poor silk screening so I could not read the jummpers. That's been running about 5 years...
