Recommend a firewall for 20 office users.

Having used open source solutions such as pfsense, monowall, ipcop, etc, in the past (and still currently do)...I would suggest going with a solution that another network engineer could step in and work with, or your company could contact the manufacturer for support if you got hit buy a bus. I...

www.buchanan.org censored? DNS seems to fail for that site.

If you do a lookup on www.buchanan.org, the nameservers listed are ns1.prettyoblivion.com and ns2.prettyoblivion.com. If you do a lookup on those, you get "No DNS for this address". No conspiracy, just a DNS issue.

Cost for installing a patch panel?

Since they cable already exists, you might get a quote for time and materials rather than per run. If they are only punching down the existing cables, that's too much. If they are punching down the cables, fully testing them, and leaving you with a documented map, that's a different story.

Tomato Firmware flash on a buffalo router?

If you're running Windows 7, you may not have the native TFTP client loaded. Go to the Programs and Features control panel and make sure TFTP client is installed in "Windows features".

Firewall help? Anyone

Change the settings on your wireless router so that it acts only as an access point. Turn off DHCP on it as well. On the firewall, change the LAN segment to something like 192.168.2.0/24.

Need Software/hardware that schedules shutdown if server/room overheats.

90 degrees may be uncomfortable, but certainly won't fry your servers.

Need some help with Server 2k3 re: permissions

I would suggest setting up a domain as well, but you'd also have to tack on the time to upgrade the home users to pro, as XP home cannot join a domain.

This is embarassing, but Vista kinda new to me.

Taken from Jack's second link(Vista file sharing). Windows Vista by default does not allow simple file sharing. Access to shared folders, including the public folder (if shared), requires a user name and password. I'd suggest reading it to find out how to set it up correctly for your scenario.
