    Windows RAID5 vs. Solaris ZFS/RAIDZ

Still, the gains from ZFS are so freakin' attractive though. If someone made a Windows ZFS driver, I'd be in heaven. Guess I better start learning C or something. Or I suppose I could be a tool and buy an XServe when Snow Leopard comes out.

    Windows RAID5 vs. Solaris ZFS/RAIDZ

I wonder how well it would work if you ran Windows Server 2003, running VMWare or VirtualBox, and ran whatever flavor of Solaris in a VM, but connected it directly to your hard drives. I've been thinking of trying this for a while, but don't know how crazy it sounds, or if it's even possible...

    Gigabit issues

So I tried some of the suggestions and got it to go around 50 MB/sec, but another issue just popped up, which I'm thinking is driver-related, but I wanted to get a second opinion. When I copy a file over, the server (with the Intel gig NIC) sometimes drops off the network. The only way to...

    Gigabit issues

Hey all, I just got a D-Link gig switch and an Intel gig NIC in today. I've got the Intel NIC plugged into my server, and my server, my main box (with a Marvell gig interface), and my wireless-G router plugged into the switch, all with CAT6 and CAT5e. I tried some file copying with jumbo...

    Intel Q6600 running hot. Help!

Hey all, thanks for the advice. I'll try checking to see if the heatsink is all the way down. I had a problem like that before when I was coming back from a LAN party where it came off completely x_x. I was thinking about getting an aftermarket HSF before, but heard that the new Intel coolers...

    Intel Q6600 running hot. Help!

Hey all, I got a Q6600 running in a steel Antec ... mini-tower? case with a 120mm fan in the back, the power supply's fan, and a 80mm fan in front. It's running stock speed @ 2.4 GHz with the stock Intel cooler and stock BIOS settings (never bothered to try and OC it). At idle, CoreTemp shows...

Oldest CPU you are running now???

Was running a Pentium III 1 GHz with 512 MB PC133 as a server, but threw that out for a Sempron 2800 w/1 GB RAM that had been my main system. So the Sempy is the oldest one now. EDIT: Oh crap, I totally forgot about the laptop that I'm using right now to post. It's got a Pentium M 1.6 GHz...

Hi all, I've got this block of code here: Try files = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("C:\", FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories, "*.*") Catch ex As UnauthorizedAccessException End Try It will throw that UnauthorizedAccessException when...

Plug and Play/Driver Install API call?

That's how it's set up now, and it's caused a couple problems, pulling drivers from the wrong folder on some models and not working.

SanDisk Cruzer® Micro USB ReadyBoost Flash Drives

It's still a good drive for a cheap price. I saw these at Staples for the same price.

Plug and Play/Driver Install API call?

Hey all, Is there some sort of call one can make to Windows to initiate the driver installation process that it usually does at boot-up if it finds new devices? I currently have a script (that I can incorporate into a different vb.net application if need be) that sets driver paths after...

    Detect multi-core with VB 2005

That seems to only work for 64-bit Windows or something. I tried to use it and it told me that I couldn't install it.

    Detect multi-core with VB 2005

It's not my choice. They tell me to code it like this; I do it so I can get a paycheck. Besides, our remote sites have their own budgets, so they use 6 or 7 year old computers to save money. That's mainly what this sort of thing is for. Anyway, would you run Office 2007 on anything less? :P

    Detect multi-core with VB 2005

What I'm developing isn't actually using the processor, it's simply detecting multi-core functionality for the purpose of deciding whether or not to allow installation of a certain application. I thought about what you suggested at first, as well, but came to the same conclusion, though given...
