I felt the same apprehension about switching back to keyboard and mouse when I got back into PC gaming. But, I recently tried to play some xbox with my friends and the controls now feel like a joke.
It has some cool ideas, but it's pretty big for a m-itx case.

It's very short, but I think its definitely worth it if you like adventure/story type games (not a ton of actual gameplay). The story is good, appealed to my sensitive side :P, I recommend it.
I guess it kind of depends on the school. At Texas A&M class rings are surrounded by tons of tradition, pretty much everyone gets one, and most wear it. So I have the ring, but no pictures or anything except for family junk.
I have one of these, it's my first mechanical keyboard, so I'm not exactly an expert, but I have really enjoyed using it and and all of its handy features.
I would just buy a high quality pair of studio/audiophile headphones and then use a clip-on or boom mic. Gaming headsets are mostly overpriced for what you get, and in most instances you can get a pair of headphones that offer greatly improved sound quality at the same price point.

I would buy a new monitor if I were you, you can get a much nicer one than that for very little money these days. I didn't think it would be hugely noticeable, but my monitor upgrade quickly became my favorite purchase last time I put together a pc.
