I have an A1 Electronics 300W ATX power supply that has a few parts missing inside, and I think they have something to do with turning the fan on and off or with varying its speed according to temperature. The parts are Q7, Q8 (both may be small transistors), C30, R26, R28, R30, and R31...
Can anybody tell me if ATX power supplies contain short circuit protection circuitry, other than through the fuse? Specifically, does this ATX supply have that protection?
Fry's has the FIC VA-503+ with a 500 MHz K6-2 for $59 (heatsink extra, $10 or less) and 128MB DIMM for $18 through Tuesday.
Can your friend wait until Fry's has another $79-99 bare bones case/power supply/mobo/CPU specials?
After I upgraded my USR external to v.92, a lot more of my connections slowed and sometimes even became v.34 instead of v.90 or v.92. I wouldn't upgrade unless my ISP supported v.92 and I could downgrade (I can't).
I found that v.90 USR externals that can be upgraded to v.92 are $10-20...
...none of their power supplies approved by AMD for the 1.4 GHZ Athlon are rated for less than 350W, unlike some other brands, like Aopen, Seasonic, AG1, Delta, and Enhance, which have 300W supplies approved for the 1.4 GHz?
I had that happen with the Delta fans that AMD provided with retail boxed K6-2/500s. AMD sent new fans, but then I found that peeling up the label and applying a drop of 3-in-1 oil also worked. But almost all the Deltas vibrated badly.
Is this from the mobo monitor or a separate meter? My Soyo 6BB consistently gives slightly higher readings than the meter I have that's rated for 0.5% accuracy.
Why does almost every AT and ATX power supply have at least two inverter transformers, one to step the 120VAC to a safe voltage, and at least one more to provide the output voltages? Why can't they make PC supplies like some other supplies that accomplish everything, including isolation, with...
I know that MemTest86 works fine with at least 384MB (send me some SDRAM to let me test it with more ;) ), and I've heard it finds errors missed by Norton and most other diagnostics.
I'd pass on any Creative drive if they're still burning their own logo into the drive's BIOS and thereby making it difficult/impossible to get BIOS updates.
