Meh, I really don't understand all the fuss. Is desktop dead? No, only desktop can use the highest powered CPU and GPU because of way less restrictive power and thermal limits. It's easier to add better keyboards, large monitors and other hardware (it's not impossible to add these to a laptop...
I have seen recently a significant number of laptops with the 9955HX and 9955HXD around, this time other than ASUS there are also MSI and the Tongfang barebones. Lenovo and Acer should follow soon. I saw basically no 8 or 12 core version in the current lineups, even if it is likely that we will...
Price/performance wise, the laptop 5080 seems to be a good compromise. As fast or faster than the 4090, and with DLSS4 on top of it. And cheaper. The increase in cost for a 5090 IMHO is not worth for a few FPS difference and 8Gbytes of RAM that could be good when the baseline is 8 or12, but when...
You are comparing the wrong datapoints. The 100% is Strix Point @15W. So when using more watts, both Strix and Gorgon will perform better in nT. For comparing Strix and Gorgon @iso power, you need to check the two close columns at same wattage, i.e. @45W Strix Point will perform +81% respect to...
That's more on MSI I think because the barebones'prices are more or less aligned with the previous generation's launch prices. Same for an ASUS laptop with 5080 in preorder on Amazon.
XMG (Tongfang) launches a barebone gaming laptop line with the 9955HX as a base option and 9955X3D available!

And the version with 9955HX (not 3D) costs less than the equivalent version with a Intel Ultra 9 275HX, while the one with X3D around 170€ more...
To be precise, I think the SPECInt or the Phoronix aggregate score are useful but neither of them has any decisive value, per se. When they differ, especially with non-negligible difference, then better to check a multiple real-world test suite, for having a better picture of the situation, and...
I meant more that if you look only at the SPECInt, you see a picture while the total aggregate score paints a different one. And in server space costs and power consumption are critical as well.
So for getting the truth you have to look at the individual scores and see what suits your needs...
It depends, Phoronix has all the subtests score as well, so one can even look at the kind of workload they are most interested about. Better than looking at a single metric, which may be a very relevant metric but not the only one, as well as one should consider i.e. the platform costs, power...
