If your budget is tight- Id trade an i5-2500 for 16G of RAM.
new CPU + 16G ram +SSD = heaven for photoshop!
I was literally shocked at the performance difference- especially when processing multiple huge mult-layer files.... and using plugs like onone, etc.
I just built a photoshop machine and it screams now.
Id go i5-2500, 16G ram... and if you can squeeze it into the budget- a SSD for Windows and photoshop.... I cant believe the difference its made.
How about a budget laptop? or even a netbook?
For those requirements- it would seem just about ANYTHING thats boots up would be enough horsepower.
I bought each of my kids a low-end laptop- PLENTY for webbrowsing, word processing, etc, etc. Not to mention the added plus of portability...

Thanks.... I was struggling to find where the onboard graphics "matched-up" vs radeon cards.... example- is what i have comperable to like a 5450 or a 5750, etc, etc.
I was trying to get some perspective on how big of a leap a dedicated card would be.
Regarding the one listed above- right...
I built a new desktop for MOSTLY photshop and video editting... so I figured Id be find with the onboard graphics...
And I LOVE this setup- cant imagine going back to a non-SSD setup. Only thing- is I was tempted to fire up a few games- and now I DO think Id like to bump up the GPU for some...
Thanks for the links....
If I was still an avid PC-Gamer- Id be all over loading those on this SSD. I can only imagine a huge difference (judging by the HUGE improvement with photoshop).
Im a bit conflicted with switching off system restore. Its actually "saved my bacon" a few times as a...
Just built a new system and I'm BLOWN AWAY by the speed of the SSD!
Im trying to determine how to best balance the speed of the ssd with its limited capacity as I start moving more apps over to the new PC.
Config:
i5-2500
16G ram
120G Intel SSD (on sata3 channel)
1 Gig drive for...

Yeah- I guess I'll wait and see. I just had that cringe of buyers remorse when I read a bunch of bad reviews right AFTER I purchased..... I hate when I do that.
