(any software such as RivaTuner will tell you what rev GPU you have, chances are it is either B3 or A3 on the 8800gts)
Is it a fair assumption that the 8800GTS cards that come "superclocked" (overclocked) from the manufacturer with full warranty might be the revision A3 GPUs?

I would go with the Quad Q6600 instead, as you suggest. It out performs the C2D E6850 according to tom's hardware benchies.
With gaming in mind - anyone disagree?
