There is also a new DS3R beta BIOS F12f http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Sup...Type=BIOS&FileID=13516
Does anyone know what 1. beta BIOS 2. update CPU ID would accomplish?
My E8400 runs fine, so I think I'll pass on the beta.
Okay, did that and it worked! Thanks! I disconnected my SIL0680 PATA controller and the other SATA and IDE drives. Vista 64 installed allright.
Now how do I get to dual-boot between XP on SATA disk 1 and Vista on SATA disk2?
Got RC2 64-bit on DVD and it goes well until the "Install Windows" dialog, where you pick the partition. I have 2 SATA drives on the nvidia (ASUS A8N-Sli Deluxe). It won't install on the SATA drive "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation." error...
Might also try a separate sound card. Try setting sound to low and see if that works. The builtin sound could eat up CPU cycles.
Also try disabling other programs/services running on the side.
Then try borrowing his card and see if it still stuttering.
Does it stutter with no overclock also?
Did install 6.70 over 6.66 and things still work. But I am not certain that it actually installed. I use RAID on the nvidia, but have nvidia LAN disable on my A8N-SLI DLX.
Driver version on the "nvidia nForce4 Parallel ATA Controller" is 5.10.2600.534 (nvata.sys)
I think I had this and if I remember correctly it was due to the setting of the select jumper for the PATA drives. I changed to cable select and then there was no delay.
josecastello: I use Corsair TWINX2048. It is dual-channel, 1T timings and I got it cheap on ebay. Works very well.
For a fan I have the Zalman 7700 that is real quiet. But the northbridge fan and the graphics card are way louder and the effect is not that great. If you have a quiet graphics...
NAM doesn't work for me either. In addition it installs and runs A WHOLE TOMCAT WEB SERVER for administration. I had it running once, but it damaged downloads. I am now using the Yukon/Marvell port and things work (except the firewall)
For me the problem was that the PATA drives were set to master. I changed them to CS (cable select) and the boot was much faster. Mine was hanging forever during POST.
The unknown device in the dev-mgr will go away when you install ASUS AiBooster.
I have the A8N-SLI Deluxe. The 7700 AlCu fits on it and I was able to install RAM. It's a little tight to wedge in but ok. The bigger problem was that the BFG 6800 Ultra card is very close to the snaps on the bottom and top of the RAM slots. But I got two sticks in and everything is fine now.
I have almost the same machine as Nocturnal. No problems with 6.66 and 1013, except that the NVIDIA firewall does not work.
I flashed using the ASUS Update utility (I downloaded the latest one).
I set all the BIOS settings again and things worked just like before. I don't notice any...
Azndude: use clockgen to make your CPU faster by pumping up the HT speed and increasing the voltage.
Use AMD64Tweaker to decrease the RAM speed.
steve123: I heard that you should be able to flash a newer BIOS using the new CPU. Put the flash utility on a floppy, add the new BIOS and boot...
