Help confirming componets for new I7 PC Build

As others have noted- the 970 is supposed to be competitive with the 780, but with much lower power usage and correspondingly running much cooler, so it might be worth waiting until later in the week.

::smacks forehead:: Totally forgot to mention- PC is not next to a router and needs to have a wifi solution. Does that change the motherboard I should be looking at? Microcenter seems to have mini-ITX motherboards with wifi, but I'm not sure they have micro-ATX with wifi. Or would micro-ATX...

The R series is slightly heavier, slightly thicker, and uses a different Ultrabay (cdrom/spare battery bay). The 15.4 inch model is also lacking the roll cage for the screen, making the top less solid (the 14" model has it).

Better Visuals than Aero in Vista?

Why would you think that turning Aero off improves performance? Turning it on should improved performance, since the GUI will be offloaded to the GPU.

What are the prices and configurations you're actually looking at? Lenovo currently has a ton of deals that seem to make at least the R61 (and under some configs the T61) cheaper than the Vostro.

An addendum to ther00kie16's post, which is absolutely correct: If you want to go the formatting route, note that it is possible to slipstream XP with service pakcs (search google to find easy instructions to do so). That way you won't have to track down a newer XP CD than your own.
