Eee Box vs Eee PC for headless server at home

I'm trying to decide between an Eee Box and an Eee PC. What I'd mostly use it for: home LAMP server, also a SSH proxy. Maybe once in a while putzing around with some software (it would be running Ubuntu Desktop, not Server). So if I were to get the Eee PC, it would be running with the lid...

Dell 2407WFP - purple screen of death?

dajeepster: Nope, cables are plugged in correctly. It's weird, it was working fine, then one day the screen showed as purple when I turned the Wii on. I hope I don't have to send in my LCD monitor for servicing..what a pain to mail in.

Dell 2407WFP - purple screen of death?

Recently, I booted up my Wii, and got a purple screen on my 2407WFP. Thinking it was the Wii, I tried it with a composite cable. That worked out fine. I tried another set of component cables..still got the purple screen. I tried a different TV, and the component cables worked fine. So...

LCD makes me dizzy?

Late response here, but.. not sure if this is true of all LCDs, but some emit polarized light. My Dell 2407WFP does. I can tell, because certain plastics set in front of the monitor lose their gloss and become matte (similar to how polarized sunglasses reduce glare). Also, some clear plastics...

What's a good AM2 motherboard these days?

Noted. Thanks. :) What happened to Soltek? I had one board from them a while ago, it was SOLID. Any other recommendations for good motherboard manufacturers?

What's a good AM2 motherboard these days?

ASUS quality is down.. WAYY down. I think their last great motherboard was the A2N32-SLI Deluxe. My cousin bought an M2N-SLI (I forget if it's Deluxe or not) and it sucks. ASUS put *ALL* the USB headers on the same hub, so once he plugs in his Creative Live External 24-bit audio, and plugs in...

WinXP: How to fix the associated opener for a folder?

I've got a Windows box that's acting kinda hosed. If you right click a folder, "Explore" is the default option.. "Open" is not. I tried setting "Open" as default in "File Types".. no go. How do I fix a prob like this, exactly? Thanks

Mac OS X vs. Windows XP

You're right. My info was incorrect. It's simply the filesystem and how it handles file fragmenting (deleting/moving files around). NTFS does a horrible job of it, while filesystems like HFS+, ext3, Reiser, etc., do a much better job of it. Nothing to do with journaling.

Good code synchronization program?

Found one: http://winmerge.org/ Not only does diff and merge, but will show modified files in different directories, and let you move the file to one directory or the other. Very cool.

How to properly dispose of a computer?

I've got a machine that's mostly screwed, bad power supply, motherboard is hosed..etc. I plan on ditching the whole thing + the case. I know you're not supposed to just pitch this in the trash, and computer parts have a little "no trash" icon on them, but they don't give any suggestions on...

Can't get rid of LCD image persistence :(
