Ok i have used mixed sets of ram on Dual Xeon 5600 CPUs. Running 4 4gig sticks and 2 2gig sticks do let you run in triple channel mode But i don't know if it works like you said with the extra running as single channel memory. Im running a Lenovo D20 workstation with that configuration now...
I was not even thinking of getting any money for the resail fo the old CPUs I went ahead and ordered the new CPUs. I think this is the last upgrade for this system and will us it still as my main system till I can get a new workstation with all the new tech.
I know that this system will support the 5600 series xeon but they are way to expensive for an upgrade to spend over $1000 for a pair of chips I might as well get a new system. I was thinking but for only $200 I can almost have the increased speed and not be too poor at the same time.
Ok i have a dual Xeon system with 2 E5520 I can get a pair of Xeon X5570s for about $200 is it worth upgrading the system or should I just stick it out with the E5520. I do video editing and the rendering does task the CPUs to almost 100%. Is the upgrade a good investment? What do you guys...
Ok im looking to upgrade my dual xeon 5520 system and was wonder what 5600 series cpu would be the best bang for the buck. Anyone know what the current CPU prices are and whats available. Your input would be great.
Mike
You know I was about to ask a question like that too. I wanted to use an ATI and Nvida video card on one PC just to use 4 monitors. Has anyone ever try this. What drivers do you install first? Does it detect the both video cards? What OS would be better XP, Vista, 7? Anyone?
