Slot loading CD-RW drive?

I believe the Apple Powerbooks have 'em, but that doesn't help unless you can figure out the maker of the drive. But yes, very cool :)

As a rule, speakers in notebooks are small, and are more utilitarian than "good". And you simply can't expect much bass response with 1" speakers :) External speakers are just about required. HD's I believe they don't say what you get so they can swap in whatever drive they want. You might need...

Recommend a good laptop for a college student

I'd suggest you go as far as UXGA, but that alone would push up the screen cost significantly (and the notebook price). SXGA is a good comprimise. XGA is far too limiting at least for my uses. Fast processor speeds on notebooks that have things like "SpeedStep" enabled would be a bit useless...

Hmm.. sorry, I read SVGA instead of SXGA. But, having just bought a UXGA notebook, I'd say it's great. Fits so much on the screen. If things are too small, set the DPI to say 120, and windows will scale everything up appropriately I personally don't find text too small on the 15" screen, since...

workaround for minimum 64mb memory win 2k setup?

It'll be interesting if it works...but why? It'll take an eternity just to boot to the desktop! There's another question of just how much memory Win2K has marked as unpagable, but then again WinNT used to recommend 12MB for x86 machines if I remember right :Q ...When did MS stop compiling for...

Can you make a "backup" of a DVD w/ a DVD-Burner? (like the PIONEER A03)

Probably not worth it. Unless a DVD burner burns dual layers, if you back up a movie, you'd stop around where most low end players pause to switch layers.

Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepads (Original) Game Port Version Under Windows XP... Will they work? Thanks in advance for FB

Works, but I never daisy chained the gamepads. By the time I wanted to try, they only sell the USB version!!! I think the problem is that they start disabling buttons when you daisy chain (not enough signal wires I guess).

do you have to do something special to copy audio cds

Err, will copy regular CD's? I'll assume you meant CDROMs. You can use an analog cable that goes from you cdrom drive to your soundcard, or rip audio digitally with DAE (digital audio extraction). If the drive doesn't support DAE, you must use the analog cable. If you can play back a audio cd...

What specs for a dedicated game server?

Keep the CPU speed reasonable (500-866 is just fine, more if you want tons of players and servers), and 512MB should be plenty (more if...). A fast disk might be useful (initial loads and all), but more memory is better the rest of the time.
