Windows 2000 restricted to 800x600.

The problem started when I installed windows 2000 in a virtualbox with linux ubuntu as host.The guest additions were also installed. I have an old computer that has windows 2000 installed- it has all all the resolution options.The same installation disc was used then as i"m using now, I also...

Old age is making me a bit feeble minded ! I forgot to mention that I installed windows 2000 in a computer that has been running windows 2000 with all the screen options. That installation was made with this same installation disc - this clears the computer. So I guess my Question boils...

Windows 2000 restricted to 800x600.

I'm dual booting windows 2000 with linux ubuntu. In linux I have all options, but in windows I only have 640x480 and 800x600. Running windows alone is also restricted to those 2 options. Is there someplace in the program that can be modified? Or is this a defect in my installation disc ?

Can virus and such affect m'board BIOS.

If you flash the BIOS, does that clear anything that was in before the flash ?

Cheesehead - I should have added - Video and sound are both fine with cable input to the PVR card thru the RF connector.

I am using the RF connectors on both the VCR and the TV card. The RF connector carries both video and sound. And, the TV card is connected to the sound card. The video is fine, and sound should be there,but it's not. Video quality is not the problem right now. Thanks for responding -...

I"m using a sony vcr plugged into my Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 and recording to my hard drive. The video is fine but no sound ! Both video and sound are OK when the vcr is plugged into a TV. Video and sound are fine on TV,and when I play a DVD movie on the DVD drive. WHat am I...

Thanks for the comments guys. Biding on the ebay unit was stopped. But from the part # I found a new unit on sale at meritline.com (P/N sw-9574-c) for $135.00 . I'ts for a pc, but if a stand alone isn't available it will do. I knew I could rely on the anandtech group ! Thanks loads...
