  1. Question Need a cheap desktop for general use, very light (older) gaming. Been out of the game a long time...not sure what route to go, buy/build

I picked up a cheap adata 512gb ssd locally with a gift card we had. Total into this 248 with tax. I'm satisfied. Don't need cutting edge anything. That A10 just has not aged well.

Ended up finding this at target of all places for $228. Can throw my GT 640 in it and be well off enough for awhile. https://www.target.com/p/lenovo-thinkcentre-m92p-mt-intel-core-i7-3-4-ghz-8gb-ram-500gb-w10p---manufacturer-refurbished/-/A-81867033

We're getting a little too expensive here. I'll revisit after there's a little more cash saved up. This machine will have to do for the time being it seems.

Unless it's a dual link DVI monitor, that is easily solved with an adaptor. If it is a dual link, that might be a bit trickier depending on what you end up with. Not without serious compromises, and you simply can't get -any- GPU right now. So it's pretty much a non-starter. I'd look a good...

I can get a cheap case locally. There is a corsair cx 430 psu here and a GeForce GT640 1GB. I assumed they were well past their prime, but would they help this situation at all? 5-600 is simply out of budget for what is needed here.
  6. Question Need a cheap desktop for general use, very light (older) gaming. Been out of the game a long time...not sure what route to go, buy/build

Long time no see. So anyway. I haven't built or upgraded anything in years. I don't even know what's what anymore. What I need, is something to replace an AMD A10 6700 with 8GB of RAM. Just assume I have no usable parts other than monitor keyboard mouse. Would prefer something I could stick a...

Maybe not worth it at all then. Would a 10krpm drive show me any improvement?0
  10. Bang for my buck upgrades for a Phenom 9850 system?

So, it's been awhile since I upgraded. Currently running a 9850 Phenom in an Asus M2N-SLI board. 4GB DDR2, Galaxy GeForce GT640. Antec 430 PSU. 300GB SATA hard drive which I think is starting to go. Best buy this week has a 1TB WD Blue drive for $40 which I think I'm going to order...

Does Intel's new Compute Stick have any HTPC potential?

Is there a FireTV app for the Windows media center/HDHomeRun thing?
  13. Help me cut the cord for as little money as possible

Red Wings aren't local here. I would assume the Penguins would be blacked out which is fine. I think we are gonna go ahead with the FireTV/Plex/Netflix/Hulu route when we do it. I told my wife I'd like to wait until the Steelers season is over so I won't be messing around with all this...
  14. Help me cut the cord for as little money as possible

Oh and just for the record I do appreciate all the input. If/when we do this it's going to be a large change from what we are used to, and we already have a plan b if we don't like it(switch to Dish as a new customer for the big discounts) but I want to try and make this work. I think the...
