Follow-up... just got the 2nd NV5 on, and WHAT a difference. My VGA coolers were the loudest by far. Now, the loudest is the cpu fan and psu, and neither bother me that much, the db drop was so great. My only beef at this point is that the fan is thicker than 2 slots. It encroaches on the 3rd...

alex007.... I would think... the non-gt has half the ram chips (4 vs 8), and a slower binned, and pipline locked gpu. I believe it's physically the same thing. Just a suggestion however, the 6800Vanilla doesn't run much faster (on average) than a 6600GT, but costs almost $100 more. Just...

I wish the stock cooler worked for me, but it very much did not. The fans ran almost twice as loud as my PSU, and my load temp was 92c. Both totally unacceptable.

Schadenfroh - I agree. But I'm not that bad with electronics, and I knew I could swap back pretty easily if there is a problem. In my opinion, running my card at 92c full load was a pretty big risk too.

New system (A8N-SLI + FX55) - Can temps be correct?

16,000 in 03? 1024/768 no aa no af? I'm getting 18,646 at stock speeds: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3515672 and I only have a 3500, and corsair value select at cl3. otoh, I am running bfg 6800gt's, which come factory oc'd to 370 instead of the reference 350.

Arguing against SLI

This isn't directed at anyone, I haven't read the whole thread, and I'm trying to state this very generally. It's amazing how much logic can be mistakenly attributed to a very emotional kind of decision. How technical specifications are being spun as necessity. Do we really NEED much more...

SLI for HTPC?

I have a SLI setup, and I'm running MCE2005. Pros: I can run dvi to an hdtv, and still have 3 left over for monitors when SLI is off (I'm a developer, I do the multi-monitor thing) I can take advantage of having multiple cards when I play games. I don't have to use an old pci video card...
