never heard a good thing about tigerdirect, I'm surprised they are even still in business.
I use newegg.com predominately and have since forever. I also use mwave.com - never had a single issue with either.
Not familiar with your specific gear, but I typically install the CPU & HSF before mounting the motherboard in the case because it is easier to see exactly what you are doing. That said, I've swapped numerous CPUs out of computers without removing the motherboard, which is in effect the same...
CPU heatsink or GPU heatsink has come loose, or more likely, the fan on one or the other (or both) of them have failed. My guess is the GPU (aka your video card) is the most likely source of your issue since you only report noticing the slow down playing CS and in my experience they are more...
I had to make a similar choice recently, I went with the Opteron 170. I'm happy with the choice, the HSF is actually really good and has heatpipes built in. I OC'd it to 2.5ghz without issue right off the bat. I haven't tried to really push it yet either so I'm sure I can get a lot more out of...
When I get a new CPU I always see how far down I can drop the voltage at stock speeds, then push it up and see how fast it will go. It's good because every chip is different and some of them can OC even undervolted (like my trusty old AXP 1700+).
2.4ghz on water? My 3000+ hits 2.4ghz on air, with stock HSF and voltage. With corsair valueram. On the same 939dual board that you have.
I'd recommend trying to push the CPU you have harder. If it's still not performing where you want it after that then look into replacing it. I'd do it quick...
Anyone know what CPU will push a 7600gt most efficiently? i.e. An AthlonXP at 2ghz would probably be too slow and the GPU would be waiting for it, but how 'bout a dual-cored Opteron at 2ghz?
I've seen posts from people running the same BIOS as me with dual cored Opterons, I'm not worried about having to update the BIOS.
Re: Reinstalling windows - I have never heard of having to reinstall windows for an upgrade to dual core. Everything I've seen says Windows will do it's usual "I...
those were basically my thoughts kaykay - I know what my hardware can handle already and I'm confident the Opteron can hit at least 2.4ghz unless I get some really bad luck.
I've got an A64 3000+ happy @ 2.4ghz in my ASRock 939Dual and just bought an Opteron 170 to replace it . When I swap out the A64, will the settings carry over to the Opteron? E.g. will it be running with the same multiplier and divider and all that? I've not messed with 939's much so pardon my...
From what I've seen you're not going to get a huge performance increase by upgrading and are probably better off just waiting longer and then doing a full upgrade, unless you really need the cutting edge performance.
Anyone know of anything that can do this automatically? I have some Dreamweaver generated PHP that talks to a MySQL DB that I'd like to convert to talk to MSSQL, here is an example:
$Recordset1 = mysql_query($query_Recordset1, $dir2) or die(mysql_error());
$row_Recordset1 =...
that sucks but is kind of what I expected (why I asked before charging off on a tangent). I imagine I can replicate the entire layout using HTML/CSS though - it will no doubt be tedious and all but certainly more fun than wrestling with stupid non-standard MS crap. Probably be cooler to the...
