Installing Jaunty...........

I installed Jaunty on my laptop and everything worked out of the box, save for one Intel graphics issue which I found a solution for. I never boot into my Windows partition any more. I've found very solid alternatives to all the Windows software I ran, and all free.

Phenom X3 720 Build

This is off-topic, but raid redundancy is BS for personal use--it just wears out the redundancy drive. You're better off getting an external enclosure and doing manual incremental backups. That way the drive is used only when needed. But more to the point...

It will post but you can't access the bios setup? That's odd. Given your description of the situation, and the fact that you did not mess around with (e.g. flash) the bios, it sounds like a hardware issue. In other words, your motherboards sounds broken. I would advise you throw it out the window.

Request for Sony FW373B Opinions

I've used one a few times but do not own one. I like it a lot. The things is very well spec'd, and the "full HD" (lie) resolution is actually really nice, albeit text is rather small. If you sit close to your screen (or have good eyes) it shouldn't be a problem. The resolution is so sweet in...

Dell Adamo

No user-replaceable battery is severely off-putting. Otherwise it's a very nice machine, and I'm glad they went ULV. Personally though, I'd just grab a Toshiba Protege R500 or R600 which is lighter, half the price, and better spec'd (and comes with optical drive, not that I care).

Should I upgrade my laptop?

Is there no option for a higher capacity/larger cell battery? Anyway, I would certainly go with updgrading that thing than buying a piece of crap, worthless netbook. Buy a cheap enclosure and use the 40gb hdd for backup. It's not a lot, but it's enough (for me) to backup all my music and documents.

Does anyone own a Gateway NX100X (E-100M) notebook?

NetBook for reading

if reading is your primary purpose there are much better ebook readers for that. some even have web browsing capabilities (some with hacks, and buggy). they're certainly much easier on the eyes, and if you're hungry, you can eat them.

Does anyone own a Gateway NX100X (E-100M) notebook?

The manufacturer, Gateway, is USELESS. I've ended up purchasing a motherboard for my laptop that I found on ebay. Who knows if it works. But then again, who cares. I just hope the Winbond chip on it is functional. Who would've thought a simple bios flash would've turned into such a nightmare?!

So you're saying that the chip was badly flashed three times in a row, twice using an eeprom programmer? And every time the bad flash resulted in exactly the same problem? And from two different bios versions? It would seem impossible then to properly flash it.

To anyone who owns this notebook, I have a huge favor to ask: if you have a bios version lower than 76.16 (e.g. 76.12 or 76.10) could you back it up using the Phoenix flash utility and email it to me? I tried flashing to 76.19 (the latest) from who-knows-what version and now the device won't...

The flash was ok. In fact, I brought the notebook to a repair place and a technician took the BIOS chip out and flashed it in an external device. Same problem. He then reflashed it with an older version. Same problem! These are the only two versions they have listed on the support page, and...
