So I tried a driver from Intel's website recommended to me by a user at Tweaktown and it worked! So now my version is July 2012, which should be fine for Ivy Bridge...
I recently received an i7-3770K that I want to install in my mobo to replace my i5-2500K. In order for my ASrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 Z68 motherboard to support the i7 Ivy Bridge, I had to update my BIOS to the latest 2.30 version. I did this just fine with Instant Flash, BIOS is all good to go --...
It actually needs a BIOS update to make Ivy Bridge work. ASrock advises updating BIOS and then swapping the CPU. See Q&A-92 in this FAQ.

I've read that updating to ivy bridge renders Sandy bridge CPUs unusable on the newest BIOS...
I would like some opinions on the build I'm looking to do in anticipation for the releases of Grand Theft Auto V and The Witcher 3 next month on PC. I also do some video-editing on the side.
My current build:
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0...
I'm going to have my friend's father take a look at it. Perhaps he can notice something that I can't. We'll have to reassemble everything and see if that will do anything. At the moment I won't be checking each individual part but I know that there are no noticeable burning marks of any kind.
These are the parts I got:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

ASrock Gen3 Z68...
Ended up going with the ASrock anyway, along with that dual fan version of the graphics card I wanted. Should be delivered today. Thanks again for the help!
Thanks. I'm not sure if I'm completely sold by the ASRock. I like the bluetooth capability of the ASUS, but perhaps it's not worth an extra $50. I'm not too familiar with the ASRock brand either.
Made a thread a while ago asking for recommendations for a computer upgrade (basically looking to run current games at max, like Witcher 2 and Battlefield 3, and be prepared for Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite, etc.)

That's the old...
Hmm, I noticed that Crossfire isn't supported on this motherboard. Part of me would like to have that option in the future just in case. Is CrossFire and SLI better than it was a few years back?
Thanks. I can't seem to find the LX version of Newegg though. There's the non-LX one though. One reviewer said something about slow boot times though:

I'm slowly inching towards finally getting a computer upgrade (hoping Cyber Sunday/Monday will have some good deals).
I was originally looking into getting this Gigabyte Z68 motherboard but I'm having second thoughts after reading some reviews, such as SATA port placement issues in addition...
I was looking at these, they seem like a nice upgrade from my current speakers:

I like how there are more inputs on the subwoofer, too.
