I think mirrored raid is more for if a drive fails, your computer will keep running, very important for a server, but is downtime that catastophic for your home desktop? I have a UPS, but I definately don't need redundant power supplies. You say you need data security. Is this data so...

fresh install, backup drive won't assign a drive letter

reinstalling goback solved the problem, i was able to get teh fiels off the drive, i reformatted it of course and will never touch goback with a ten foot pole

I just did a fresh Win Xp reinstall on a computer, I put all the backup files on a second hard drive. After the install, the backup drive won't get a drive letter assigned. The drive is detected just fine, shows up in computer management as healthy, there just isn't a drive letter assigned, and...

Need suggestions on shuttle system/ overclocking a celeron D

get her an iBook, i got my gf one and she loves it. It does come with a productivity suite, just not office. You could alwys "find" it online anyways :) But i did add an extra 256mb of ram its a must. The mac mini looks intersting to me too, and everyone keeps hyping it, but for 900 bucks...

I want to part out my pc for a laptop

What Fan for XP-120

I just installed an xp-120 with that panaflo fan. I dont have any vibration issues at all. I have my fan at blow, and the only time there was any type of vibration was when i put my hand in fron of the fan, there was a little buffeting noise, so maybe it has to do with limited airflow is...

Don't let my coworker buy a MiniMac - Recommend a sub-$1000 PC!

as far as ram goes, with 256 having safari open and then trying to open word as well takes forever. it can run one program at a time pretty well, but 512 just makes it way smoother, and makes the system feel a lot faster. As for expensive software, it really comes with all the productivity...

Intermittent no optical USB mouse on boot, Logitech MX510 on Shuttle SN95G5

just a random thought, you could try in the device manager under properties of the mouse see if "allow computer to turn off device to save power" is unchecked. It's greyed out with my intellimouse but who knows. It under the propeties for mouse, not HID. edit. nm just read it was a cold boot.

Which goop to use on NV5 & later a new northbridge cooler?

I just replaced the northbridge hs with a vantec iceberq. I used As3 no problems so far. I wanted to go passive, but none of the zalman hs would fit with a dual pci graphics cooler. I use speedfan to turn down the fan and i can't hear it at all over my other fans. And my nb temps are 17-25...

installed an xp-120 and panaflo FBA12G12M, power from molex or mb?

well plugged it into the motherboard, so far so good. i aslo installed speedfan, what a great tool. My computer is a lot quieter now.

Got a 6800 ultra, other than HL2, Doom3, Farcry what will show it off??

yeah i got this on the $350 outpost deal. My friend got his yesterday, but he had some stuttering issues, he called bfg and they said to turn off fastwrites. I did realize overnight shipping was only 2 dollars more, so i ordered 2nd day, oh well.
