Core 2 E6600 temp...again

Well, I don't have an E6600, but I do have an E6300 running at 2.74 GHz. I think your temps are fine. My E6300 idles at ~32.0C and loads around 44.0C (sometimes 45.0C). I'm using a Zalman 9500. I'm impressed with the low load temps you guys are showing with the Arctic Freezer 7 and Scythe...

Overclocking my E6300

The uGuru software that comes with the Abit AB9 updates the Bios when you software overclock, so when you restart you have the updated speeds, voltages, etc. from the uGuru. I don't know that other software does this, but the Abit software definitely does update the Bios. Interestingly, it...

Great idea -- I think you're onto something here. My timings are like 3:3:3:15 and the current bios doesn't seem to have an adjustment to loosen them. But good news -- Abit has released a new bios today which supposedly allows you to loosen the timings. I'm running at 1:1 (always have been)...

How important are heat spreaders on RAM?

Can't beat the case for $15! I'm willing to give the power supply a try, I just don't want anything to get toasted. I can live with replacing it in a few years (for $10) if it dies eventually.

Thanks. For CPU you suggest E6300 for $210? What about the RAM -- recommend against going 2gb for $135? I'm unsure what to do there... there seem to be so many choices and speed vs. cost, etc. I'm not sure how much I'll need to spend just to get by... and whether it is a waste to go 2x512...
