MSI 290x Lightning - RMA process [Updated: Replacement in transit!]

I've recently been having issues (i.e. daily crashes, bsods, hard locks w/ sound) on my sig rig and uninstalling Afterburner seems to have helped. Meanwhile my other system (AM3, unlocked PhenomII + 2x 7950) has been happily crunching along for a couple of weeks -- since the last power outage...

Mythbusters DOOM level

Mythbusters had a video game special a couple weeks ago. Here's a link to the www.discovery.com page. The fourth item (DOOM level 1) gives you a taste; I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but it looks pretty cool. As an aside, the mythbuster's fruit ninja rig looks awesome.

DP versus MiniDP

same here. I hadn't needed (mini)DP up until my MSI TF3 7950s, which coincided with a many-monitor splurge, but now that I've got the requisite mini-DP cables I find myself needing full-size connectors to suit my XFX 290s. All in all, it's par for the course as far as VGAs, display standards...

Congrats EightySix Four! That is a sexy beast... Though what's up with serving up the very best AIB card for what was (afaik) an unspecified prize? somebody, somewhere was feeling mighty generous. Consider me jealous.

Radeon 7850 or R7 260x? EDIT: Went with the R9 270.

Which cards will actually be branded as full-fledged dx12 is still up in the air, afaik. I'd say you did fine if your $130-ish investment holds you over until Win10/dx12 hits and everything gets set in stone -- it'll keep a good share of its value and you can re-evaluate when all the cards...

R9 290 CF pull the trigger? for 1440p..

This certainly is interesting to me. I should say that someone going CF 290(x) may want to look into how the different AIB partners' designs stack up when running two -- my XFX 290 DDs are excellent as single cards, but the temps on the top card aren't great (which is to be expected, granted)...

Return GTX 970 for R9 290x?

^^ Mmmm... What I wouldn't do with those spare Tri-X HSF's of yours... *** For single card 1080p, that 970 is still pretty much the great card it was a week ago. (except maybe for SoM -- what's up with that one game? :P) The DD cooler isn't half bad; certainly quiet, and it keeps my bottom...

Any pointers on crunching Einstein@home w/ R9 290?

It started off as something like 50% invalid tasks (for the most part Perseus), so I switched sub-projects to Arecibo and still got tons of invalids. So I knocked down the GPU clocks, even though they'd been good enough for Moo, Collatz, F@H and maybe some others, I forget. Didn't help. Turned...

[Sweclockers] Radeon 380X coming late spring, almost 50% improvement over 290X

Solid deal! *** I don't know about others, but I welcome a 300W single GPU flagship, assuming the closed loop cooler is quiet and reliable (which seems likely) and the increased power is well spent. (i.e, efficiency doesn't fall off too badly compared to a more mundane air-cooled, 200W model...
