Vista won't start

Vista help?

Completely shutting it off will obviously solve your problem, though you won't be able to quickly turn on your computer anymore if you do so. Try temporarily disabling these automated tasks using the Task Scheduler (use the Start Menu search bar to find this program) and see if that solves...

Maximized windows hide behind Start bar..??

I think this has something to do with your video settings. Try rolling back your video drivers and changing the resolution. I never had this exact problem, but this was what I did when my mouse was able to scroll off the screen into nothingness.

Slow pc help ?

For the most part, Windows does release the memory after the application (more specifically, the process) closes. The task manager shows a lot of basic information about memory allocation, so examine it to see if anything is being a particular resource hog. How long have you left the computer...

Windows XP repair.......problems

First try waiting a long time at the black screen. Then format the hard drive with a CD for any other operating system and do a reinstall. I think you can do the hard drive formatting from an XP disk, too, but I don't really remember.

Vista start menu

In my opinion, the #1 thing that will save you time with the new Start Menu is the instant search bar. If you haven't tried using this feature extensively, well, you should. :)

Vista 64 vs Vista 32bit

I'd say stick with 32-bit for compatibility reasons. But, of course, if you plan to upgrade the RAM later, then get 64-bit now.

Just be sure to check an updated compatibility list before you upgrade. Nothing sucks more than going 64-bit only to find out one of your most important programs doesn't work. Also, the difference that most people really notice is that programs designed only for 32-bit operating systems cannot...

Do you use Vista's UAC?

I leave UAC turned on, and I use TweakUAC to put it into silent mode only when I know I'll be doing a lot of administrator-level activities with the computer using programs I trust.

Merging .flv files

One inelegant but functional way to do it is to use the Free FLV Converter and a standard .avi movie editor. Otherwise you'd probably need a Flash software package.
