I would say try and get a 9600. Arent 9500s based on 8500s?

Whats the best brand of the 7800GTX

For the 42134071239471097th time, eVGA has lifetime warranty too. Just get what is available and cheaper between BFG and eVGA. Leadtek is good too.

What is the best brand of 6800GT???

BFG, eVGA and Leadtek are the best, but it doesnt mean all the others are crap (Just not as good) BFG and eVGA come with lifetime warranty (Was about time eVGA gets into the boat). eVGA are also in the cheapest. BFG is overclocked out of the box, but why pay for something you can do yourself...

7800GTX prices are dropping. So are other cards.

So nobody buys them, and they spend less for 90% performances with a 6800GT or spend a little more for twice the performance.

Do you think the 6800 GT could fall to about $200ish in the next 6 months?

Omg, enough with SM3.0 already! The lower I could see the 6800GT dropping is from 350 to 300, maybe 275. Not below 200. Oh, and enough with SM3.0 already!

Video driver problem

Try installing 4.12 (Old a little, but it's just a test) and see if it works. Some people seem to have problems with the 5.x Catalysts.

Maybe it's just the drivers you're using. Not only try from a different place, but a different driver.

How limited by my CPU will I be?

With a little CPU overclocking you should be fine. If you're going AGP though, you may want to consider something cheaper (6800NU - 6800GT) unless it's the ATI Refurb deal or you have a good deal on it.

Even with the 7800GT... 7800GTX: $500 6800U: $460 6800GT: $350 The Ultra may (and should) drop in prices, but the 6800GT is already low enough as it is.
