Best CAD/3D Animation card for under $1000?

True, but I haven't seen any good results from it yet. Software rendering has done a much better job from what I've seen.

Heat sinks and weight

I am considering upgrading my socket 939 A64 3200+ to a dual core A64 X2 or Opteron. I don't have enough for a new system (that will be 4 cores at least) and the dual core upgrade will help me a lot with my 3D rendering. Thing is, only OEM X2s are available, and the Opterons are not reasonably...

Trouble with a wired home network

I was able to get the printer shared, but I had to use NetBEUI. The only problem I'm having now is that while I can see shared documents on the other machines, I get an Access Denied message. I have set the folders to share with absolutely everybody, and the documents in question are NOT...

Use Nforce4 drivers or Windows XP drivers for SATA HD's?

I have a hard time trusting NVIDIA's mobo drivers after my bad experience with Nforce4 IDE drivers. However, all you can do is test it. If it doesn't work with one, it ought to work with the other unless you have defective hardware.

New System Decision

For video encoding and rendering, you definitely want a Core 2. AMD is going to be rolling out socket AM2+ and AM3, so upgradability with them is as hard to predict as it is with Intel. I was counting on 939 to still be the socket of choice, but everybody that promised that was wrong.

New high end gaming system, couple of questions.

Quad cores won't help gaming any more than dual cores will right now. Get yourself a fast dual core machine. For strictly gaming, you can go with 2 GB. More than 2 GB can help a little with multitasking, but programs can't see any more than 2 GB right now unless they are specially coded to do...

Yes you can leave it out, unless it's on carpet. If it's a card or a hard drive, you can put it inside or on top of an antistatic bag just in case.
