PCI-e 2.0 Wattage

150w per slot? I would have sworn it was only 75w per slot, 75w per 6-pin PEG connector, and 150w per 8-pin PEG connector. Thanks for the link Aluvus, that was a good read though.

PCI-e 2.0 Wattage

Back before PCI-e 2.0 came out, I remember one of the more exciting bits about it (in my opinion) was a more flexible power provision for PCI-e 2.0 cards. I was under the impression that this would allow for more wattage to be provided through a PCI-e 2.0 slot, allowing higher wattage graphics...

BSOD error at specific times

Recently, my computer has been getting the BSOD, but only when performing certain operations. Whenever I try to run Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, or Avira's Rootkit scanner, at around the same time in each scan (usually early on), I get a BSOD. I do not run into this problem...

What card for non-gaming computer?

Does the 780G support dual monitors? I don't believe it does, but I could be wrong. Edit: And his E8400 isn't going to be very happy in an AM2+ board.

Quiet fans or heatsinks?

I believe the Zalman VF700 is compatible with the 9600XT, and will do a good job of cooling it. Check the website before buying though, but you should be in the clear. That 7300LE is a bit trickier - you should double-check with Arctic Cooling, but their Accelero S2 cooler does list...

Memory + CPU settings on motherboard

1.44Ghz - that's pretty odd. If the multiplier on it got dropped somehow it would be at either 1.86GHz or 1.6GHz - there should be something in the BIOS relating to the processor, or at least something about bus speed and all that. For your processor, that should be set at 266MHz, and the CPU...

What do you run as a daily overclock speed?

I run my E6600 at 2.8GHz (400MHz x7) 24/7. CPU cooling taken care of by an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

I'd recommend picking up a motherboard with onboard graphics instead (G33 board), and having your friend save up a bit of money for a new graphics card. That way you won't have to muck about with all the problems that plague the ASRock board. He should be able to get at least $120 for that...

Any reason this PSU won't do 8800GTS SLI and C2D E6600?

Apevia is one of the worst power supply makers in the world - that being said, even a low-quality 680w unit like that one should have no problem powering those parts. Still, I'd definitely pick up a better power supply for that price - something like a Seasonic M-12 500w, Corsair HX520w...

OCZ buys PCP&C

They still keep the PC Power & Cooling name - I don't think we'll see much difference, except even better supplies from OCZ. Not that theirs were bad to begin with.
