AGP w 939?

I'm planning to upgrade my wife's computer from an Athlon XP to a 939. (Not an Intel or AM2 since I want to use the DDR memory and Radeon 9800AIW AGP video card that I already have.) I'll be using all four slots for the memory (4x512). I'll use my current Venice 3500+ moderately overclocked...

Use USA Notebook on 220V in China?

Q1: Simple question I'm sure for anyone who travels overseas with a laptop. Can I plug my Lenovo laptop (bought last month though NewEgg in USA) into 220 volt outlets? Is the proper plug adapter the only "extra" item needed? Will they have USA-to-Beijing plug adapters available there...

No, that combo is an old socket A setup, not much better than what you had. There must be two very different Sempron 3300+s -- that combo uses an old NF2 board and an "AMD Sempron 3300+ 2.0GHz / 256KB Cache / 333MHz FSB / Socket A / Processor", but the TomsHardware chart is testing an NF4...

Will a dual core Athlon 64 help me out any?

You have a good system already. Wait and build a new system this summer with the new AMD platform. Scrounge around in the meantime and collect a cheap monitor, etc for your wife, and give her your old system then, so you don't have to share, plus you'll be able to play LAN games with her.

Antec TruePower 2.0 430watt or Fortron Bluestorm 400watt

Get the Antec. It offers significantly more amps (assuming I was looking at the same Fortron on NewEgg). Your setup with that hi-end card may need the extra power. I'm running an Antec 2.0 480 which I like a lot - quiet and powerful.

Need Quick upgrade advice

Consider the Venice 3200 and 3500, the San Diego 3700, the Opteron, and the X2 3800. They get a little better as you go, and have a better likelihood of overclocking very well, but whether they are worth the extra cost is a matter of opinion. Folks have good luck overclocking most 3200s. Buy...

Your rig is not bad. I like my 9800 Pro just fine. If your 9700 Pro runs the new monitor OK, be patient. Wait 4 to 6 months, build an M2 rig, and get today's best video card a lot cheaper then.

2 free computers... which to take?

They will both be so slow by today's standards that you may soon tire of them. My old Athlon 850 (on Win XP) makes a decent word processor now, but that is about it. I'd go for the one with the best video option. I have a "free" Dell 866 (Win 2000) but it has no AGP slot and its onboard video...
