From my desktop PC (Windows 7) I'm running iTunes over Airplay - either wireless to the speaker, or (as Airplay sometimes drops out) to the Airport Express, which has a cabled connection to the PC and also is hooked up to the speaker from its own sound output. I don't have the speaker hooked up...
Thanks a lot for taking the time to test this.
It seems that the bass of the A2s would be ok for the volume levels I would use them at with my PC, but as much as I was ready to pull the trigger, I can't get over the placement issues (granted this is true for pretty much all book shelf...
Best? Maybe a Focal Bird or Little Bird 2.1 set or a pair of Genelec G Ones with an F One sub.
Disclaimer: I haven't sampled either of those, but I've been doing speaker research for some weeks now, as I've been wanting to upgrade my venerable Boston Acoustics BA4800 and MicroMedia System sets...
I'm in no hurry, so whenever you get the chance will be fine :-)
No, I haven't made any more detailed test than trying out the speakers with various music and a single game (the Mass Effect 2 launcher's music has similar deep bass that also had the right Yamaha speaker distort).
But...
That's good to hear.
I just bought a set of Yamaha NX 50 speakers, that had pretty impressive bass for their size, but on some songs with deep bass they startet to distort, so they're going back.
Obviously, the A2+ will also be limited by it's size, but I'm wondering how it copes with similar...
I may have seen that before and discounted it, as I think the design is a bit too messy, but if I happen to come across it I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Well, I did also test if with the very demanding Heroes of Might & Magic II ;-)
But something's happened. The bass from my sub (which never was set very high, usually dialed in to about 1/3 of max on the sub itself), has started to distort rather heavily.
(This even with the master PC volume...
Well, for me it was definitely worth it.
Quick question: What is 'shared mode' and does it matter what 'Default Format' I set in this setting? With a fresh driver install, it was set to '24 Bit, 48000 Hz' with two higher settings possible (and a lot of lower ones).
Change or leave alone?
One person's experience:
I'd never before considered on-board audio a viable alternative to a discrete card, going back 20 years to a SB16 (IIRC).
But now, with a new build I just finished, I started out with the on-board audio on the ASUS Z97-AR (ALC892), as I've seen many suggestions that...
To be fair, what I've done with the smaller, bottom drive cage isn't one of the official 'Optional Bottom Cage Positions' in the manual. Only the top cage has the 90 degrees turn option (and mine does have that smaller bracket you mentioned). But it works well enough for me.
And yes, the case...
The drive cage I've turned is the smaller of the two, so there's no small arm bracket to re-attach. And it's in the original place, as I like to have it close the the front as I think it makes for a cleaner build with nothing getting too jammed up (there's about a cm of clearance from the front...
Thanks for the suggestion, but again, it's sadly not ergonomic.
If only they still offered the black Comfort Mouse 6000 (at a reasonable price), I would be all set...
Only the top optical drive bay is in use. I'm sure the SSD would be perfectly fine mounted in the second one without sitting in direct airflow, but I think I'll keep it in the top bay of the bottom drive cage, now that I've turned it 90 degrees (and removed the unused drive sleds), so the cage...
