Just installed a new PS in my comp and having probs...

For the future, you might find it easier to run the system for awhile first, and then quickly disassemble the HSF from the CPU once you shut down. With the system still warm, the HSF should come away easily (thermal paste tends to stick a lot more when it's cold).

I Am Afraid of LCD's I Think I Want a 80 lb CRT

Interesting thread - simply summarized, stick with whatever you like best. Personally, I switched to a great LCD (Samsung 191T) three years ago from the best aperture grill CRT monitor I ever owned (Viewsonic PS790), after realizing that my cheap notebook was looking better that the 5yr old...

Non-Gamer card - Need recommendation

Mainsteam graphics card are differentiated solely on basis of gaming performance these days - if you are not gaming, go for the least expensive PCIe card you can find. It will look exactly the same at the more expensive cards in 2D applications.

Overclock causing hard drive data corruption?

Yeah, certain boards lack proper functioning sata locks on ports 1 & 2, so you are better going for 3 & 4. Regardless, however, if you are not Prime5 *and* memtest stable, then you are risking data corruption - period. You need to lower your overclock (or raise voltage, etc. see Zebo's...

Best SocketA performance?

If you can find a cheap XP-M for a reasonable price, go for it - but I know that's easier said than done. I'd second the S754-Sempron combo for $100 - they overclock great, and would be faster than the XP-M upgrade.

Should i take it?

Problem seems to be that that the highest-end AGP model Sapphire ever made was the X800XTPE (which is obviously discontinued). There closest contenders are the nearly as old X850pro (definitely much slower than yours - they don't seem to have made an AGP X850XT), and the X1600Pro (again...

Question about 1t vs 2t for mem

A64 2800+ are typically Newcastle cores (although it could be an old clawhammer, I suppose). My Newcastle 2800+ does max 2.34Ghz stably with a bump in voltage to 1.585V (i.e. a 30% oc on 5.5% overvolt - not too bad). Some people report success taking their Newcastles much higher (e.g. 2.6+)...

OCing Sempron 3100+, Paris or Palermo core???

Here's a later article from X-bit (04/04/05) that dicusses the difference between Palermo and Paris semprons. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/sempron-3100e.html As you see, they got their Palermo to just under 2.7GHz, while the earlier Paris would only do 2.5GHz.

Overclocking a Barton 3000+

What BIOS version are you running? My old (unlocked) barton 2500+ is sitting in my son's A7V8X, and I don't have an option to run the fsb above 166 ("333" in the bios). For that matter, I don't recall being able to go above the 12.5 multi on that board, but I'll need to double-check that...

Overclocking on 754 platform... am I missing something?

That's odd ... but it may be due to how the board caculates the decimal value of the divider. There's a real quirk in how boards calculate timings. The 2/3 divider could be 0.6666..., or it could be only 0.665 (i.e. 266/400). You can calculate effective memory speed by the following formula...

Low 3DM 05 score w/ X800 XT

You might want to re-install the CCC, and verify you are running at 8X AGP without AA/AF forced. Most people run 3Mark with everything adjusted to performance settings, to boost their score (the default setting is balanced). You can always choose not to load CCC at startup if you don't like...

Worth upgrading a 9500 pro to a 6600GT ?

The 6600GT is a good card, but it's not that much of an upgrade (I'd estimate ~50-60% faster on average, depending on the game and setting). I went from a 9500pro to a 9800pro (slightly slower than a 6600GT) and was disappointed with the upgrade. The 6800GS is only about ~$40 more around...
