I've seen them before, pretty sure i've even tried them out in CircuitCity, but i can't remember enough about them to provide an opinion.
I have a good hunch that the Insignia's would have noticeably better sound quality...
Heck at that price i'd say buy them both and allow them a few dozen hours of break-in time then give them both some critical listening.

I'm guessing the 8" Dayton is probably taller than 12.5". Using the 8" sub as a rough guage, i'd guess the cabinet is anywhere between 14" to 16" tall.
Ebay is a decent place to find a smaller, decently priced sub. Keep an eye out for a week or two and you'll probably find what you're looking...
