Why so FREAKIN' big...?

You're not comparing apples to apples. The same processing power of a massive card from five years ago would probably fit in a low-profile passively-cooled card today.

Whats a good max temp for GTX 460 1GB OC?

Mine hits about 60 at real-world loads, but I have the Cyclone cooler as well. It's a nice card.

Static discharges on my usb port?

I just went to plug in my USB cable and there was an electrical discharge between the port and the cable. It still seems to be working but is this a big problem and what could be causing it?

Help New Graphics Card

You can't spend too much on a GPU without hitting a wall with your CPU anyway. You'll want something without a PCI power plug... GTX240 perhaps? Shouldn't be more than 80 bucks and dead simple to install.

Fish Scale video artifacts

It can't be the cables, a physical display problem wouldn't show up on a screenshot. If it's an occasional problem 99 percent it's the drivers. Try a different version, either a newer beta or an older version, see if that helps.

First retail 6870 photo; now includes full Chinese leaks and Guru3D review discussion

Excellent idea, unfortunately it looks basically identical to the 5870, and we can't see the power connectors in the back. Hopefully it's not too loud but we really can't speculate on that.

Cayman launches in mid-to-late November with high availability

How can Barts Pro be in between the 5850 and the 460? The 460 BEATS the 5850 in some places. There's no room performance-wise to squeeze a part in there.

Radeon 4670 or PSU not functioning properly?

I was going to say your PSU. The fact that you didn't give us a brand name tells us it was probably a low-quality PSU, which can cause problems and even damage your hardware. So let this be another lesson: Your PSU is not like the gas in a car, it's like the oil.

Overclock has never been "stable" under stress tests, but why should I care?

I gotta say, if you get a crash in the stress test but have never had a blue screen or artifact in three years, your stress test might have a bug that's crashing it. Within 40 seconds is a "massive memory error"-type problem, and you should see other evidence of that.

new vid card and RAM -- now we can't boot

Definitely pull the RAM, try one stick at a time. If you have hardware problems with a build, i'd say 80 percent of the time it's the RAM.

Best video capture device

Thanks for all the advice guys, I especially appreciate the lack of Mac suggestions, cause that's WAY outside the budget. I may just recommend she have a professional handle them. Without that constraint there's plenty of play in the computer budget too.
