Tips for driving stick/manual?

When you first start practicing, in a large parking lot of course, first learn to slowly let the clutch out and get the car moving without using the gas pedal. Most cars can do it, and it gives you a much better idea of how and where the clutch engages in relation to the pedal position.

Anything to look out for in a 1999 BMW Z3?

Where the rear differential mounts to the trunk floor is a problem area. Some cars have had issues with the suspension mounts tearing away from the body, requires some very skilled welding to correct. http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=66501

It also fails to address that the manufacturer ratings assume that once the load is in the pick-up someone might want to drive it somewhere. Huge difference between a live load in a moving vehicle, and a static load.
