500GB Harddrive Suggestions

I've got 2 Seagate 7200.11 drives that have been great. I use them for music and movie storage. It seems that they perform just as fast as my WD Raptor (10k rpm) that I use as my OS/programs drive. After reading this thread I moved about 5 GB of movies from the Seagate to the Raptor and back...

GA-X38-DQ6 will not boot with USB device connected

Static sound from front audio ports

Plug your headphones into the rear audio jack, do you still have static? If rear jack has clear audio, then check audio wire between your front headphone jack and MB. Sometimes it becomes unseated inducing noise, in any case it is unshielded and prone to interference.

installing SATA HDD for the first time

You are probably thinking of RAID requiring special drivers. If you will be installing a modern OS, it shouldn't have trouble recognizing the SATA controller and drives. Will your MB have an integrated SATA controller on it, or will you be installing an add on card?
