  1. Question CPU mining - "Raptorium". Now also "Avian".

Again, we agree on the general notion that a single factor won't save a coin. As for the 'no value proposition' to PoW, it is also only a factor. It obviously won't save the coin *on its own*. One traditional calculation of intrinsic value, in the context of a non-earning asset, is simply the...
  2. Question CPU mining - "Raptorium". Now also "Avian".

Yes, I am ignoring "numerous PoW coins..." because I wasn't defending any coin, just PoW. You can make a bad and pointless PoW coin just as you can make a pointless PoS coin. The important difference is simply that PoW provides a link to the real world; the laws of physics. That's one...
  3. Question CPU mining - "Raptorium". Now also "Avian".

Some effort has been put toward that here: https://docsend.com/view/adwmdeeyfvqwecj2 Bitcoin doesn't look so foolish in comparison. I'm not defending BTC, btw, I'm not a fan. A much better cryptocurrency may yet emerge, but BTC might also change faster than any other coin can catch up. This...
  4. Question CPU mining - "Raptorium". Now also "Avian".

One might argue that the banking industry is a much larger waste of energy and has had a bit more time in the sun. Pure PoS coins have the weakness that their value is derived solely from speculation. Has anything been invented in the PoS world that can drive a dynamic value balance...
  5. Question CPU mining - "Raptorium". Now also "Avian".

I don't disagree with anything you said. I just wanted to say that even though I'm one of those people who doesn't trust PoS, I do still like Raptoreum. My problem with PoS is only that it isn't a complete substitute for PoW. As a complement to PoW, I actually like it, and I think that it...
  6. Question Alder Lake - Official Thread

Could you post the link to your GB 5 page?
  7. Question Alder Lake - Official Thread

Here's a pretty impressive GB5 score for the 12600K: (ST 1960) https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/10836223 This trounces my pretty decent 5800x score (ST 1828) https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/10826841 (SMT disabled, which seems to give trivially higher ST score) Edit: My 5800x is...

  9. Question AMD Ryzen 5000 - AVAILABILITY

Sounds like they reconsidered the tradeoff between "good will"/rep and bringing equilibrium back to supply and demand. I wouldn't hold higher prices against a retail outlet in such a situation. When selling at (underpriced) retail, the same number of customers go wanting, and *some* of...
  10. AMD Ryzen 5000 Builders Thread

I ordered an Asrock (B550M Pro4) in advance also. It arrived with documentation that predated the 5000 series. It referred to the upcoming 4000 series. I was a little worried also. :P When I *finally* got a 5800X, it worked fine. Well, fine enough to boot, run, and update the BIOS, anyway.
  11. Question Ryzen 5 3500X!

    Looks like your 2700 :D
  12. Question CPU cooler be horizontal or vertical ?

I would argue that both are right. From bottom front to top back should normally be the main flow. In my situation, with the computer inside a desk cubby, it's even more important. :p edit: I'm not how sure your title matches your question though.
  13. AMD Ryzen 5000 Builders Thread

I probably have the worst cooler on this forum on my 5800x and the highest (stock) temp I've seen is 90C while running y-cruncher (1B digits of pi mode). The HSF is an original (old style) Wraith Spire with a 120mm fan+adapter replacing the stock 92mm fan. One other very stressful benchmark I...
  14. Question AMD Ryzen 5000 - AVAILABILITY

Antonline.com has the 5800x in stock at $480 if you're in the US. The extra $30 probably buys you a 3-month Xbox Online PC sub. At least that's what I got about a week ago. Edit: they sold out sometime last night after being available for well over 24 hours after this post.
  15. AMD Ryzen 5000 Builders Thread

LOL! I was a little nervous myself about that, but my manual claimed that it supported the "4000" series so I went with it -- and it worked. I still wound up stealing parts from two different machines though, so I am up one 5800x and down one 3600x and one 2700x. :P /lucky
