Will socket A heatsinks fit on a socket 370.

Intel Socket 370 CPU that's easiest to keep cool

I run a file server that uses an AOpen slim case and it has a 1GHz celeron fanless running in there. I use a Thermalright AX-7 all-copper heatsink. Seems to run fine. The power supply has a single low output 80mm fan blowing out of the case. The loudest thing in there is the dual hdd's

I'd go for a VIA KM400 or nVidia nForce2 IGP based motherboard that has onboard video.

Hmm.. I've done some testing with both my Dual AthlonXP and this Dual Xeon setup. Both run cooler having the rear fans blowing in, the front blowing in, and having the 2x fans in the PS exhaust the air. In some ways it makes sense, you want to draw in cooler air in from down low and draw hot...

Since you answered yes to question 6 and it's still rebooting on it's own, you most likely have a hardware issue. Have you tried running bare minimum hardware? (CPU, 1 stick RAM, Video card, harddrive) Disable onboard NIC and audio. You can also try running in "safe mode" to see if it...

ah man! I don't have a backplate for this motherboard, what do I do?

Send an email to MSI and tell them you need a replacement I/O shield for your mobo. Sometimes they will send you one for free or a small fee.

Is buying Refurbed hardware from Newegg advisable?

It can be. It's just the luck of the draw. Most items they allow you to return if they are DOA. I've received several dead motherboard and some that mostly work (ie 1 dead PCI slot, etc..), but it seems that the majority of the stuff does fully work.
