HDD forgetting things?

HDD forgetting things?

Is it really possible for a HDD to "forget" things? Because I'm think that's what's happening with my PC. The primary boot HDD (a PATA Western Digital Caviar 120GB) is pretty old now and as of lately it's acting strange. It's being detected just fine and the PC boots fine, but once Windows is...

Can someone figure out the difference between these two?

That doesn't matter if you already have your own high-end HSF, like the recent Zalman CPU coolers. In that case, you'd be better off buying the non-boxed/OEM version (i.e. without HSF) of the more efficient CPU.

Same here, but it is only the onboard IEEE1394 connector that is used for the front panel firewire connector (y'know, the one that is attached with a cable). That doesn't work for some reason and I can't figure out why. The one in the I/O section at the back does work just fine, so I'm not...

NEC 2070SB or the FE2111SB

Can't go wrong with 2070SB. I have it and I absolutely love it. It's an Augustus 2004 model and I've got it for more than a year now. Brightness and contrast are very good, even now. :) There are a few things such monitors are sensitive for and that's signal quality, power and magnetivity...

Vendor-specific SMART attribute?

I checked again with the diagnostics utility and it turns out it's the airflow temperature. It's not covered by warranty according to the utility, but that's okay. It doesn't seem to be anything serious. But I'll mess around with the HDDs positions and see if I can improve the layout. I'm using...

Vendor-specific SMART attribute?

http://www.skwowwy.net/other/hdd_smart.jpg This is a recently bought SATA HDD (arrived last Saturday). Sometimes, SMART reports this vendor-specific attribute as failed, but I have no idea what it means, nor do I know if this is dangerous or not. Most of the time, this attribute is just fine...

which video player software uses the least cpu?

Quite the contrary. GeForce6 and up as well as Radeon X8xx and up support MPEG2 acceleration, even if it's in high definition.

Holy SLI 7800GTX = System Memory Hog

PCI-E motherboards no longer work with Aperture Size. I also have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium and I don't recall such an option in BIOS. Anyway, I'm not sure why that happened to you, but if you know someone with an SLI motherboard, try out your two cards there and see if the same thing happens...

Blerg, PC won't start up... :\

I guess it's still either the MB or CPU, most likely the MB, though, since if it was the CPU (and the MB was fine) then I'd receive a POST Reporter message stating that there's no CPU installed or something. So yeah, I guess I'll RMA the MB... ;_;

Err... 380W ought to be just about enough, really. The manual states that a minimum of 350W for Athlon64 3400+, 2x 6600GTs, 2x DDR DIMMs, 2x HDDs, 1x optical drive, 1 PCI card and 3 USB devices. Well, if the PC is completely barebone, with only the CPU and RAM connected, then you'd surely expect...
